The Department of Economic Development (DED) requires would-be business owners to go through a set of rules and procedures in order to have a legal trade license to operate their business. This license is mainly taken by the companies to trade different types of goods. The general trading license allows companies to import, export, and re-export and also to trade different kinds of things like furniture, clothes, electronics, food items, electrical items, etc without any tax using only one license. Having a General Trading License is a great option if your proposed Business involves in trading in several products, and not within one category group only.

In the mainland the initial cost of the trading license is high. If the business person is to trade different kinds of products, then it is advisable to go for a trading license. However, one needs to understand that there are several limitations for some products with this license. Such products like medicine or medical products, cars, guns, alcohol, etc., are bound by this limitation to import or export with this license. These said products will need prior special approvals from the different Municipalities in the UAE. However most of the general trade items is easily covered by a general trading license, though it is expensive as compared to other trading licenses but the initial one-time high costs will be superseded by the numerous benefits that can be reaped in the long run.
